Having a newborn is a good opportunity to sit up for some couple-hour stretches in the dead of night trying to keep him asleep while reading Goethe’s Sorrows of Werther

I just read The Getaway by Jim Thompson and dang does it get interesting. It was recommended to me that the last section of the book is completely different but fits in and “this book is a magic trick” and that’s a pretty good explanation.

The history of WWI and the Russian revolution as seen through the eyes of a variety of characters from widely different walks of life, spiced up with a number of love- and other relationships straight out of a victorian romance.
