Two games I can recommend for people who download and play with interpreters

I was looking through old games that I liked, and I found a few that don’t get seen much because they require download. They’re both by J. Robinson Wheeler.

The first is First Things First , a time travel TADS game. It’s really very inventive, although the first puzzle is a bit unfair and the opening rooms seem sparse and unimplemented. Later on, it makes more sense. A really fulfilling game, and nominated for Best Game XYZZY.

The other is ASCII and the Argonauts . It’s from a speed competition, so only available in a zip of other files, but it’s an amusing Adventureland-like take on Jason and the Argonauts. It’s short and Scott Adams-sparse, but feels complete and enjoyable.
