ScummVM for IF

Thanks for mentioning cool-retro-term. It IS a lot of fun. It’s like looking back in time, or into another world. Unfortunately it has locked up my computer hard every time I try to run it which is alarming. (Both times when using the context menu to switch profiles or play with the settings.)

I see there is a newer version (1.2.0) than the one provided by the debian bullseye repository (1.1.1). Not sure yet if I’ll take the time to build it. Is it worth it?

Thanks,
Abe

I don’t know. I never experienced the lockups you mention, and I don’t know what changed between 1.1.1 and 1.2.0. (I’m using the Debian 1.2.0 package.)

This is (or used to be?) considered a genuine bug in Curses, but has no bad side effects, and will not display if warnings are turned off in Frotz. See this rec.arts.int-fiction thread from 2008.

In the current Z-machine standards document, there is some discussion of what the sensible response is to @get_child 0. I guess the standards document being undecided is pretty much the textbook definition of “undefined behaviour”.

Then it seems ScummVM is behaving “as expected,” and is not at fault in this case, LOL. Thank you for sharing that history!
