The trouble with Steam is that you’re tying the content to its service, and it won’t work without it. GOG (to choose an example at random) sells old-school and modern games that can be downloaded, archived, and played on their own.

Well…usually you are, but using Steam’s DRM is actually optional and there are games on there that allow you to archive the files and copy over to a machine without Steam’s libraries present.

Since the game is already published on itch, I don’t think that would be too much of an issue. (And you can opt out of Steam’s DRM, and it would only apply to the interpreter executable anyways.)
