Replace "You can't see any such thing" message

I don’t remember how to replace “You can’t see any thing.” with a custom message.

Help, please. Thanks in advance!

It’s a parser error message–you can change it by saying

Rule for printing a parser error when the latest parser error is the can't see any such thing error:
say "Pardon me, but that's not anywhere around here." instead.

It’s under section 18.35 in the chapter on Activities.

You could also change the response directly.

The parser error internal rule response (E) is "[We] [can't] detect anything like that."

Bjorn,

Where can I find a list of those responses?

Thanks

I believe you can find them in the Inform 7 editor. I don’t know that the list is complete, but there’s a chapter in the documentation that goes in-depth on the subject of Responses.

I just looked up the rule itself in the Standard Rule, which is probably the wrong way of going about it.

Type responses all at the in-game text prompt after compiling.

Right, yeah, forgot about that. I find it hard to use effectively because it’s just such a massive infodump.

There’s an extension designed to help with changing the default Inform 7 messages: “Response Assistant” by Aaron Reid. You can download it from the Public Library.

(I’m not him, by the way.)
