In Quixe/Lectrote on my Mac:
No objects in room: LOOK takes 12 ms
1000 objects in a different room: LOOK takes 250 ms
1000 objects in the same room: LOOK takes 11000 ms
So there is some slowdown, though obviously much less than when the objects are visible.
