I’m quoting my entire apology and revision post here. As @otistdog rightly mentions, it’s important that all of you know which games are currently in the list so you’d know which you would second or choose not to.
Also, my grumpiness about the DOS-relics should be accompanied with the visual image of my “Brain King” avatar chewing on the stem of Magritte’s La Trahison des Images (also known as “Ceci n’est pas une Pipe”), which I have just read is now in the public domain. (Or not… )
Hey, I’m sorry about this one. I felt a bit peeved about your dismissal of two of my entries. In a knee-jerk reaction, I searched my IFDB “Played” list for the most obscure game that was not DOS. (Well, I later saw that although it has an AGT version on IFDB, it’s also a DOS game on the Internet Archive…)
It’s not a bad game, but it’s also not a good one, and were it to be picked out of the hat, I would have regretted it.
Thanks for retroactively replacing it with Abbey of Montglane , which is actually a really good game, and one I would love more people to try. It’s the game that convinced me that old DOS-relics really are worthy of playing even now.
As for The Adventures of Maddog Williams in the Dungeons of Duridian … It’s amazing and hilarious and clever. It’s also such a far-out hybrid that I don’t expect many people would dig it.
Perhaps I saw your event as too much of an opportunity to push such complete outliers on unsuspecting players that I took it a tad too far.
And since you say this, I would like to revise my list one last time, with a more definite theme (except Abbey of Montglane , than one was my very first pick):
So, going for amazing zaniness, and definitive non-@otisdog-badgering-no-more listiness:
The Abbey ( Internet Archive)
Guttersnipe: Carnival of Regrets - IFDB
The Bible Retold: Following a Star - IFDB
Dr. Dumont’s Wild P.A.R.T.I. - IFDB
Yes, Another Game with a Dragon! - IFDB
I’m sending this list together with my apology because I’m uncertain how it would go down with other readers to change my picks three times in the same thread. What do you think, should I post yet another revision of my entrants, or just let it be as it is?
Best greeting for 2025, and lots of KUDOS and ZORKMIDS awarded to youy for this initiative. (Perhaps an OLD_FARTS_EVENT for 2099?)
