I started to use this but it seemed to want votes for all games all at once. Is that the case?
Yes. The form asks for ratings for all games.
So far, I have not received any game ratings via Google Forms.
So far, there are 16 ratings via Itch rating system.
Could we have it so rating all games on the form isnāt mandatory. You could add a minimum, e.g. 2 games, or not. Iām not playing all the games but I want to rate the games I did play better
Prince,
It is not mandatory to rate all games on the Google form. Just rate the games as desired and submit. There will be no penalty for the games you did not rank.

I just tried using the form to see how it would work. I tried putting in a high score for one of the games another competitor entered that I liked. I just made one choice (gave one game a rating of 10 for best game). I then submitted it.
It gave me a link to click if I wanted to edit, which I did. Going to that editing link, I saw that single vote still recorded.
I forgot to save that edit link; now when I go to the form, I have to start over, so when I really vote, Iāll record that link to make sure (and ask fos1 to delete me original response).
So, from my attempt:
-you only have to answer the questions you want to answer (the āmandatoryā word was left up by accident I believe)
-you can edit your answers if you save the url
(Actually, wait, I checked my history and I do have the edit url! So I donāt need fos1 to delete my original vote, I can just edit it. I encourage people to click on āeditā after voting and saving their url)
If I voted using Itch do I skip that in the form and vice versa? Itch is a better place ultimately for the authors because it leaves bread crumb trail for people clicking around looking for something.
Honestly I donāt get the whole form voting saga and I think it is more reactive than proactive.
Iām not quite sure what you mean by this, but jam ratings donāt affect the Itch algorithm like regular ratings do, and as for displaying on Itch that a game won something, that can be done manually by the organizers for an Itch event with off-site voting. I donāt think having off-site voting really affects discoverability on Itch in any way. My two cents as the organizer of another event with split voting (although in our case the Google Form voting is for categories of award not covered by the Itch rating).
I have found that it is harder to get people to engage with the Google Formāclicking an external link is just that much more work than doing everything in the same site/app!āand that it is more susceptible to cheating attempts/ballot-stuffing. But we wanted to do award categories in a way Itch doesnāt support (where not every game is being evaluated in every category), so weāre kind of stuck with it. It is true that ParserComp has a less obvious use case for having both, but I think they are trying to accommodate members of the community who donāt like to use Itch in any way for data privacy reasons.
Iām still not seeing any responses on Google forms. Yikes.
There are 21 ratings on Itch.
I gues next year I wiill bite the bullet and use something commerciial like Survey Monkey. It will be worth the expense.
Why not just use itch?
well, one saving grace of the IFComp is its excellent voting form, which even I can support as possible standard voting form for the IF community.
Best regards from Italy,
dott. Piergiorgio.
Is there an x/twitter hashtag, FB, Instagram, or other social media posting where I can vote or leave a review? Typically, if I clicked on a game or entry under my profile, I would be sent an email saying āI see you downloaded a game, would you like to leave a rating or review? You know, just like any other site requesting user feedback.
I understand itās difficult to actually IF play games on a phone, but for all other aspects of contests, it certainly seems best to follow the current norms of a āmobile-friendlyā approach first.
One nice thing about itch jams (and IFComp, too) that you can easily rate as you go. Iāll rate a game immediately after playing, then move on to the next.
For this comp, Iām waiting to submit the Google form until closer to the deadline once Iāve played as many of the games as I will have time for during the voting period. (It will be a very short list, but I figure some is better than none!) SurveyMonkey would be no different, in this regard.
I imagine that some others are doing the same thing: waiting to submit all their ratings at once. Although since the Google Form is apparently editable (as mathbrush learned), maybe that isnāt really necessary. Mostly a matter of convenience.
Hmm, there should be at least one vote recorded since I did experiment with submitting the survey.
I do too. So is it okay, to submit several times @fos1 ?
Edit: I submitted the form today - I hope it reached the expected destination ![]()
Like I said in my first comment, I really think itās just about having to go to an external site at all; I donāt think it matters which one. Plus what Nell said about waiting to have played more of the games.
Iād love if the IFComp site was available to use for other events, but currently itās not. I believe itās all open source so one could fork it to create your own version but that would require a lot more time and effort (not to mention hosting costs) for the first person to do it. Iād love to use it over Itch but even if I had the technical skills to do all of the above (I donāt) itās more effort than I personally would be willing to put in for a small comp.
Itās worth mentioning that even small comps require a lot more work to run than is visible to the participants. The SGS is probably on the extreme end of this due to the vetting requirements, but itās broadly true of all of them, and that workload increases when you arenāt using an integrated voting platform like Itch or IFComp provide.
Any chance you can confirm that you received at least some by now?
I submitted via the form and Mathbrush said so too.
Yes. There are now two responses.
Thank you, fos1
There is still time, but the ParserComp 2026 lamp is dimming. Game rating will end in 9 days.
I received word just today that the challenge coins will be shipped from a gold mine deep in the Cascadia subduction zone in northern California. The goblins have been stubborn. I am excited to see how they turned out!
Once the winners have been announced, I will have the personalization engraving completed at a secret goblin engraving emporium in the Llano uplift in Hill Country, Texas.
Thanks for all of the participation this year.
