I think the issue comes from Inform’s compiler, which automatically constructs a plural, even if we comment out the plurals in the Standard Rules.
Apparently, you need to add a plural of your own, or else the compiler’s version will prevail.

So, this should work:

The specification of animal is "Represents an animal, or at any rate a
non-human living creature reasonably large and possible to interact with: a
giant Venus fly-trap might qualify, but not a patch of lichen."
Section G - Game
The Film Set is a room.
Alfredo Cogshigue is a man in the film set.
The crew is a person in the film set. The crew is plural-named.
Printed name of the crew is "members of the film crew".
Understand "men/women/members of/-- the/-- film/-- crew/--" as crew.
Description of the crew is "Some women and men who have different roles within the film crew.".
