New user approvals

I think it’s totally fine and understandable- I’d rather have to wait a bit to access it than be blasted with bots n crap. I don’t even know what that would be like

Isn’t this what Interactive Fiction is all about, though? lol

Hi Ken, welcome to the IntFiction community!

I think you’re conflating interactive fiction, which includes text adventures, with point and click adventure games. The former uses text commands and outputs text descriptions, and the latter involves…pointing and clicking on things, often in order to manipulate them in some way. Those are much more “get out a magnifying glass and click everything that looks viable” that is reminiscent of some infuriating CAPTCHA tests.

Overcoming the challenge of providing a meaningful username is a reasonable barrier of entry–even if it could take me an entire day to be happy with one. Glad this one panned out by a stroke of luck.

It’s been nearly a year since the manual approval process started. Is the spam any better? Is it worse? Just curious.

Most accounts do get approved, but there are still several each month that we reject if they look totally sketchy.

I was honestly surprised that this username was still available.

Thanks for approving me  I guess I have to pass a Turing test now.

I think it would be so fun / entertaining if when you first sign up you have to play a short IF game. Like a 1-2 minute thing. And there could be like an anual contest where the winning submission is that year’s IF CAPTCHA. Something about this really makes me giggle with joy ( ๑‾̀◡‾́):sparkles:
