New game port: Madman

I have released Madman. Find it at GitHub - fredrikr/madman: A text adventure in Inform 6 + NAIL · GitHub . There’s a Z-code file under playable_game_files

Story: A madman is on the lose, and it’s your job to stop him.

Madman was originally written by Ove Friman in Basic on VIC-20, in 1983.

I have now ported it to Inform 6 and Z-code, using the NAIL framework. The port is very close to the original, but it’s a bit kinder to the player - it allows alternate ways of expressing some actions, sometimes it offers a clue as to why something doesn’t work etc. It’s still a quite cruel game, by today’s standards. Expect sudden death, and discovering that you need to restore a save game because you’ve left an important item behind. The game has a HELP command, which provides useful clues in certain locations. While the original game didn’t provide a SAVE command, this port does.

To me, this game has a lot of charm, and quite a bit of tension. I have done everything to keep the style of the game intact, which also meant keeping most of the mistakes in spelling, grammar etc. I also adapted NAIL so that Look etc matches the style of the original game.

Special thanks to my beta-testers: Garry Francis, Gianluca Girelli and Pablo Martinez.
