Musical theatre references in Stage Fright

Looking for fun environmental details is one of my favourite parts of playing IF, and I especially enjoyed all the little references in Stage Fright!

What I think I caught:

  • Multiple references to The Phantom of the Opera (obviously)

  • A character and some costumes from Cats

  • Costumes from The Lion King?

  • A note parodying Cirque du Soleil

  • A note referencing Heathers: The Musical?!
    (This one I’m really not sure about, but I’ll feel a little less crazy if anyone else saw it too hahaha)

I know for sure I missed several others, since most of the character names were unfamiliar! I need to level up my musical-geekness…

Brother of a famous scientist at the university felt like Back To The Future but I might be way off…

Oh, I wondered about that line! I don’t know enough about Back to the Future to get that, but very cool if so!

(I looked it up out of curiosity and apparently there is a BttF musical too :astonished_face:)

I wanna say the three-legged cow references Into the Woods, but it never loses a leg, right?

Also a message on the wall in the creepy tunnel referencing Pippin.

Also, Dead Girls Walking definitely sounds like a Heathers reference. Love that musical.

Ah, great catch, Into the Woods makes a lot of sense! (I think the missing leg was just from the crew’s carelessness or neglect, haha)
