I’ve put in three intents! I’m optimistic about all three of them being ready in time—one of them is fully built (but needs some rewriting), one the first third is complete and playable, and one the first fourth will hopefully be complete and playable by the end of today (I’ve given myself the deadline of July 4).
Oh, god. Everything is happening too fast…
Let’s see if I can make it! Probably not. I really want to though!!
That’s the third (potential) IFComp game that’s Christie-adjacent that I know of. (Although one of them has only a very tenuous, presumably unintentional connection.)
I’m hesitant to raise my hand until I actually do have a playable game that can go to testers, but I’m hoping to have one.
Of course, this is the same game that I hoped to have in 1995, so…
ETA: When I try to register an intent, it tells me “Your form submission had some problems; please see below for more details,” and then provides no further details anywhere.
Please email ifcomp@ifcomp.org about registration problems.
There’s a question about gen AI further down the form. You might have been tripped up by that.
It seemed to me that you have to answer several things after the first submit button. So just answer most questions and use the last submit button. Perhaps this is due to the quite new AI questions(?)…
Jinx.
To pile on what Kenneth and Phil said (or Phil and Kenneth) I just had a similar mini-adventure.
- it took me a while to notice that I hadn’t checked the “my entry has no AI” checkbox.
- Then I realized that IFComp.org unchecked the “I have read the rules” checkbox I’d checked because, well, there were some rules I hadn’t read enough before the first time I checked it.
So you, or others browsing this thread, might have the same non-issue(s) I did.
It didn’t like my cover art, for some reason. Exported from GIMP 3.2, under 10 MB, and it gagged on it. The error message for that is inline with the input box and in the same style as the rest of the form, unlike other error messages.
Is it a png file? It hasn’t been working recently. I emailed them about that and they replied immediately saying they’d look into it.
That’s it exactly.
I submitted my intent when the Gods of IF were looking the other way. Hope it helps and I can get it done.
I have a question about packaging:
I was planning to have a ZIP file with four files: the story file (.z5), a readme, a floorplan image, and the cover image. That’s what I’d like uploaded to IFArchive after the competition is over.
However, it seems that to get a “Play Online” button, you can only submit the story file (.z5) itself, not a zip.
How important is that “Play Online” button? What do other people do? I checked last year’s entries, but they all link to IFDB now.
I think it’s easy in Inform 7 as you can package with a custom website or something like that. Not having Play Online isn’t the end of the world as there will still be quite a lot of people who play it, but it’s often helpful to have the option as some people don’t want to have to download files.
If you really want, you can put just the story file in the game file section, and then attach the floorplan image or readme (or both in a zip file!) to the walkthrough option…
𒀀𒀭 !!
I really hope I didn’t fall into the “Chinese characters tattoo” Pit of Ridicule there. I used an online English → cuneiform translator
Intent submitted. I’m nervous, my writing partner is not. See you there, hopefully
We’re on track to finish our game, but it’s still a WIP. I recently mapped out one sequence, and this monstrosity is making me laugh so I thought I’d share.
Surprisingly evocative of funky 1980s textile designs! (complimentary)
This looks really interesting! This year’s IFComp seems pretty exciting with all the entries. Let’s hope we can all complete the games in time!
