But look again at the response to >ADAM, TAKE CUP. Think about how the parser is understanding the word “cup,” bearing in mind that, at startup, neither the human player nor the PC would be expected to know about the Stanley cup. Without foreknowledge, the human player in all likelihood assumed that “cup” would refer to the teacup. Did the parser do the right thing, or not?

If it was in real life, I would expect it to works this way. If I call you on the phone and ask you to pick up a cup, I expect you to pick a cup in your house, not mine, or to tell me you can’t because there’s no such thing in your house. I would not expect at all that “cup” referred to my cup.
