Thank you so so much for your generous review and for the suggestions. I really appreciate the time you put into this and I can’t wait to make edits with your suggestions in mind. (And any time I feel doubtful, I will look back on these words!)
Summary
Thank you such much for such wonderful feedback. The goal was definitely to create a feeling of success in overcoming trauma - it’s simplistic, but it’s my first experiment in games like this. The overall goal was to create a feeling of progress and success.
It’s funny you mention the menus being too diverse because I actually drew from my childhood - my dad was a former line cook who was autistic so once he was able to make enough $ coding, he never wanted to cook again if he could help it, so visiting specific favorite restaurants was a nightly ritual for us kids growing up. Tuesdays might be Cajun while Thursday was Indian. I might have leaned too hard into my own memories, but no regrets as this was an art piece and remembering my dad inspired a lot of the revamp/update from the initial game jam version. The text itself isn’t linked to any culture, at least in my head, as it only mentions eating and learning recipes which everyone can do.
The overall goal was indeed a universal “life gets better” message, so I’m happy that carried across. Gameplay could definitely be improved. Re the stats, if you revisit cleaned areas, you can do calming exercises to raise stats - on reflection, obfuscation of stats through descriptive terms probably makes it harder to figure that out, so thanks for that feedback!
I totally agree with you — I’ll change the viewing interface.
Thank you for playing through it and for the thoughtful review — I really appreciate it.
