Someone asked about writing a Python-based parsing game for a class assignment a few years ago, and there was a lively discussion. Which I primarily remember, probably, because I wrote a lot of text about how I’d gone down that path. You can read the whole discussion here, but I’ll summarize a lot of what I said there by simply saying that doing a good job of writing a parser-based game purely in Python is an awful lot of work, and that if your goal is to produce a finished work of parser IF that people will play and have fun while doing so, developing your Inform or TADS or Dialog chops is likely to be a far more efficient use of your time than trying to invent enough of a game design system to hang a good game on.
