HTML offline mapper, AI-made

So, while desperately needing to occupy myself from a Real Life disappointment, I had ChatGPT make me an offline HTML UHS Reader based on OpenUHS (open source) and an HTML mapper that I could use to replace IF Mapper on Android (it’s good, but it has issues).

I have yet to really stress test it with an actual game. It seems robust and seems to do what I want (it doesn’t do “up/down one-way” connections, but at that time I was pretty tired and I just went "the labelling system can take care of that).

So, I mean, I just kept telling ChatGPT what to do and what to tweak. I’m not claiming ownership. This is totally ChatGPT work. I was the equivalent of the boss who doesn’t understand anything about programming and kept saying “Now do this. Now do that. Add this feature. Change this. Oh, this got broken.”

Features… well, pretty much all the expected stuff, I think. It is quite customized to my preferences. It includes a pane for taking general notes, which get saved along with the map. Connections can be manually bent, you can have stubs, notes on rooms, you can change the colour of the room to mark dark rooms or indoors/outdoors or whatever, you can…

…well, if you’re interested you can try it out, and if you like it, hey, download it and use it. I know I will. As soon as I come across an IF game that requires mapping. I was just playing Beyond (it reads better in italian), which doesn’t. But I’ll come to it.

This will probably only be of interest to people who want to use the mapper offline and use Android or something. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not super crazy about AI, but look, I needed a distraction, and I also wanted this tool, and I found that AI could do it. It was that or wait until someone did this niche thing for me.

It’ll stay online for a month. Alternatively, grab the thing below and remove the .txt extension.

Mapper v2.html.txt (96.8 KB)

I kinda like it for my very specific portable-and-internetless usage. Maybe you like it too.

And maybe it won’t disintegrate in a flood of bugs as soon as it sees actual usage. That would be pretty embarassing for me.

EDIT - Oh, when connecting rooms, it’ll detect on which part of the room you’re clicking. So if you click near the right edge of room1 and then at the top-left corner of room2, it’ll create an E-NW connection.

Necessity is always the mother of all inventions and other things

Had a new version made, addressing a few things. Make room text turn white when the background colour is dark, allow for labels along connections to be slanted along the lines, allow them to be flipped, reworked the “save/load” possibitilies because my offline browser wasn’t playing ball, added a circle shape, etc etc.

Honestly? I’m not sure there is another IF Mapper that a) runs on Android and b) requires no internet connection, apart from obviously the IF Mapper app. Which I specifically had ChatGPT write this to replace. Desktop mappers, or browser mappers? There are quite enough. But this particular niche? Well, now there’s two options, if you’re interested…

If the thing is a HTML front end with styling and JavaScript for the dynamic parts then it ought to run everywhere, granted a few things, but in theory.
