Thanks!!

Nope, covers, feelies, hints, etc don’t count. Which is good, because I’m okay at making cover art, but I definitely can’t do it quickly!

Same. Except I do not have cover art skills. For the sad cover art I can make it takes me far too long.

Thanks a lot Sarah!

Everyone, keep in mind that the entries won’t appear on the comp page until October, 31.

You can talk about them in public if you want, but that is, officially we will celebrate the 31th.

I submitted my entry. For some reason I could not submit it unless I selected available in all languages. I tried selecting just English and it would not allow an upload. Could be something wrong on my end.

Thanks for letting us know! I believe I’ve now fixed that; can you try editing your submission to just select “English” and see if it works now?

Thank you very much. Is there a proper way to edit the submission directly on the jam page, or do I need to just delete and resubmit?

Edit: I figured it out. I was able to successfully update the entry with just one language. Thanks again.

My simple four hour La Petit Mort project has spiralled out of control into a Grand Guignol project. That’s how you suck us in, isn’t it?

Still simple enough, in principle, that I hope to finish in sixteen hours.

If I wanted to make a visual novel for petite mort, would I need to make any art within the 4 hours as well, or would the time just be for writing the script? (It’s not gonna be like super fancy art or anything, the focus is still on the text.)

No, the art can be made outside the four hours!

What are the limits on this? If I were to make a game with a non-trivial but not strictly necessary visual component (like e.g. my game An Exact Map of the Empire ), would the art & UI for that not count towards the 4 hours?

Is that definitely the case? I thought it was just “adjacent art/styling” like coverart, CSS styling, headers, feelies that sort of thing. If it is what makes up the actual essential and main gameplay would it be included in the time spent same as other game assets like code and writing? I actually have no idea about maps either whether that’s going to come under “doodling” . Probably a question for the hosts of this comp.

The art doesn’t count in any way to the 4 hours. That’s it.

UI UX and MAP graphics, does’t count either to the 4 hours.

I didn’t know this. I’ve always counted my making of in-game graphics within the four hours (hence why they’re always so basic!*).

* by which I mean even more basic than my usual graphics

I think I did know this, but I like the challenge of trying to do the whole thing in four hours, start to finish.

Cool that’s good to know.

Hopefully I didn’t misread the rules, but would using a template count towards the 4 hours spent, if the template was mostly self-written? And would it be okay to use two languages in a single game?

Two languages in one game is fine! Regarding use of a template, time spent on CSS/appearance styling doesn’t count, so if that’s what the template is for, then any time working on it doesn’t count toward the four hours.
