ECTOCOMP 2025 additional warnings

There are some ECTOCOMP games that don’t have content warnings but should have them, or that have content warnings but might need more detail.

That’s what this post is for! Please add whatever content warnings you think are appropriate to add.

Authors, don’t view this as a reflection of you or your work; these are just things that people think players should be aware of before playing your entry.

To make spoiler text:
blurred text
produces blurred text .

 • Velatorio: This has a warning for adult content, but for future players I’d like to specify that it has explicit nudity, specifically male genitalia depicted in connection with imminent abuse.
 • The Idle Demon: References to murder, torture, blood, domestic violence
 • Dual II: Cyclic: Blood, death, murder, dismemberment

The wiki is working for me! :+1:
Edit: comment no longer relevant (but the post does work, yay!)

I added one for Velatorio! And I’d like to agree that I didn’t include it to tell people not to play it, just to provide more context.

Yeah, content warnings like this are a good thing: they mean someone played your work and wants to inform other people about it so they can play it too!

And they can also serve as a draw to the people who would be interested in your work! There are people who want to avoid certain subjects, but there are also people who are interested in seeing those subjects explored.

Content warnings are difficult for authors to write, and in some cases their omissions are the biggest flaw of the artistic endeavor. Content warnings written by anyone other than the author are a form of critical commentary, and while I support the freedom of speech involved in posting those warnings. they aren’t fundamentally different from other forms of critical commentary.

Might it also be possible to blur the name of the game itself in these content warnings, for those of us who really want to go into the game experience with only the information the author intended?

I would suggest simply not looking at the post! Spoilering the game titles would made it harder for people who do want the additional content warnings to find them.

Linking some past discussions on content/trigger warnings from this forum in hopes that the same old arguments don’t get rehashed again here…

The context is very important. Time is too short and there are too many games. Warnings help us to avoid misconforting or inadequate contend that we dislike.

Using this thread to say that I’m more than happy to elaborate on the trigger/content warnings I provided if needed, and I’m more than willing to add more warnings if it’s deemed necessary . Don’t hesitate to send me a message here on the forum and I’ll reply and/or adjust accordingly

Not all authors are aware of how to design or write proper content warnings in the culture of a community like us.

So, I think it is a good way to teach them commenting and adding those warnings.

Good work!
