Cultivating Creativity (The Grail Method)

Meanwhile I know about proprioception because it’s one of the things negatively affected by my dyspraxia.

Nonetheless, I still get the benefits of hand-writing things that everyone talks about, but another aspect of the dyspraxia is that my handwriting sucks, so I’m trying to balance the greater ease of sorting out my thoughts with the results in fact being much harder to review later as they’re not very legible.

Well, that and I have a cat who likes to shred/eat paper, but luckily so far she’s only destroyed IF brainstorming docs that I was already done with.

How I despise creativity. There are times when my own pretentiousness so overwhelms me with revulsion that I break out into hideous faces. You can occasionally catch me making these faces on the street or at work. It’s my way of forgetting. Yesterday an idea came to me that inspired so much self-loathing, that I quite deliberately did not write it down. Of course today I have come to regret it, and plan on spending the remainder of the day trying to remember what I have deliberately forgotten. No, today I will not allow myself a moment’s peace, this being my one day off from work for the week. And I tell you truly, gentlemen, this is the least of my torments. Let us have done with creativity.

Neal Stephenson also has thoughts on writing with pen on paper.

I definitely know that this is true for myself. A only half-related fact is that you can check for spelling with writing. (If you doubt about spelling something write it down both/several ways and you “feel” whether it’s right.) The relevance for this topic is: There happens a lot in the brain during writing that we usually aren’t aware of.

That means you had luck so far. (Or your cat is an alien superbrain that knows what she/he does.)

I would recommend a kind of wrapper/folder for storing papers.

I would not rule this out, honestly! She’s devious.
