Cat oddities

@xyzoe
My cat Dusty looked exactly like Laurel. He made it to about 18 years old.

Funny/sad story:

My wife had a paraffin wax machine plugged in on the floor by a table. He stepped on it and either got startled by the other cats or tried to use it as a launching point to get up on the table. We run into the room and the wax had splashed, and the lid was off and our Dusty had a back leg coated in hot wax. There was nothing we could do at that point so we took him to the vet, they shaved the bottom part of his back leg. He had a bit of light burns to his skin, but nothing serious. We felt like bad parents though.

We brought him home and he was so self conscious about his bare leg. He refused to play or engage with the other cats, and just curled up in his bed with his tail perfectly covering his leg. You wouldn’t even know it was shaved. But when he had to get up to eat… all you could see was a big, fat, round cat with a peg leg. Just like a pirate, I swear. “Ahoy, Dusty! Shiver me timbers!” Then he’d meow indignantly. “Ye be a scourge of the Seven Seas! Arrrrr!”

His fur eventually grew back and you’d never know. It’s amazing how complex animal behaviour can be. He definitely exhibited vanity, embarrassment… we already know cats are capable of vengeance and supremacy, but that was truly a new one for me.

They’re also capable of love… but I swear it’s more about an ends to a means than the unconditional kind. They are so manipulative.

Oh, c’mon. We all know it’s true. :wink:

Your reaction to Dusty’s accident reminds me of an episode of my favorite anime. The anime in question is Ojamajo Doremi, and the episode in question focuses on the relationship between Reika Tamaki, the show’s resident rich bitch classmate, and her father and reveals in a flash back that Reika recieved serious burns as a toddler from spilling hot liquid on herself and how her father’s guilt for not paying attention to the hot kettle lead to him spoiling her rotten.

Also, that pirate talk needs some feline verbal ticks or cat-based puns and metaphors… Also, I’ve been known to walk around with a kitten perched on my shoulder like a pirate’s parrot, which raises the question of what kind of pet a cat pirate would have, since cartoon cat logic dictates a cat pirate would just try to eat the parrot.

Also, can’t believe I didn’t think to ask sooner, but anyone know any zcode or glulxe parser games where one interacts with a cat in a significant way? Say, a cat NPC at least as complex as the pig from Lost Pig.

Also, what does xyl mean?

I’ve seen it used (once each) for “wife” and “ten years later”. Probably “wife” in this context, although I don’t know the etymology.

The running joke could be whenever you see the cat pirate, it’s a different, and nervous looking, parrot.

How about… “Arrrr! The crew be mewtinous and in a furenzy, but they’ll never kick meowt! Though anything is pawsible. It’s not like I’m purrfect.” :wink:

@Mewtamer 5 puns for your pleasure.

Mewtamer! Also I think @mikeybehr would greatly appreciate your puns.
