Anybody know which interpreters (Mac) would support the music for Beat Witch? Lectrote isn’t playing it and the game’s telling me the interpreter doesn’t support volume control.
The music seems to work fine in Gargoyle and Spatterlight.
It works fine on my mac while playing in-browser, so that should be an option for anyone who has trouble.
Yeah, just use one of these. Lectrote does not include sound support as it is based on Quixe, which has no sound support.

Thanks all!
Hang on, an Inform game playing music in a browser, for real? (i.e. not using @mathbrush 's clever but cheaty workaround)? What tech is enabling this? Last time I looked, none of the interpreters would do this. Does one of them now do it?

It uses Vorple IIRC.
Thanks all, for pitching in to answer @johnnywz00’s question!
You are all correct – sound for Beat Witch works in most offline interpreters (like Gargoyle) and sound in the browser will work if you play directly from the IFComp site.
I didn’t use the workaround @mathbrush was using. He was still in Quixe, the default online interpreter, as far as I know. I used Vorple with some hacks of my own. After the comp, I plan on making my source code available for anyone who wants to see how I supported both online and offline play.
So it comes down to this: Beat Witch will play sound in the browser (edit: but not Lectrote), provided it’s the officially supported online version.
(If you’re playing in the browser and type VERSION in the game, and you see "Vorple version 3.2.8 " – or whatever version of Vorple happens to be used – on the line after the game’s release number, sound should be supported for you.)
I have also added an alternative online play link to Beat Witch’s IFDB entry, as the “Play On-line” button uses Quixe and won’t work with sound. I would love to have the actual button go to the correct version, but I don’t know if that’s possible on IFDB.
And as noted in the help menu and walkthrough, hearing the music is not essential to winning the game. If you’re having a lot of trouble getting the sound to work, please don’t stress out about it!
Lectrote doesn’t support Vorple. There’s no way you’ll be getting sound out of Lectrote at present.
Good to know. Thanks.
