Announcing Spring Thing 2026

I’ll officially withdraw you, and I look forward to your future work!

The games have been uploaded and are being checked out by authors. Current plans are to open at midnight CST (6:00 am UTC). While there is a smaller group than in recent years, I’ve been very impressed by the quality I’ve seen while going through the games!

Good luck everyone, and I think players will really enjoy this year!

Spring Thing is closing in just a few days! Thanks to all the entrants and reviewers, this has been one of the most fun festivals with tons of interactions and responses from people.

The confirmation on ribbons is still broken this year (next year I’ll get on that!) but rest assured that I am receiving your votes!

I’ve just tried to submit my votes/nominations, and after clicking submit, there’s a long delay where it thinks for a bit and then gives me a gateway timeout error. I tried on a couple different browsers. Is this just a me problem?

Gateway Timeout

The gateway did not receive a timely response from the upstream server or application.

Additionally, a 504 Gateway Timeout error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

In private testing yesterday, I attempted fixing the confirmation email issue, but it didn’t work, so I put it back to the way it was. Since then, I’ve had the timeout issue as well, but the votes still get recorded. I have recorded several votes from an email that resembles your username, cast May 7 11:28 (I assume that’s in UTC), so your votes are counted!

I might just switch to google forms next year, tbh.

Oh, shoot, I was like, “Well, surely a timeout means I’m not spamming votes, I’ll try again just to be sure.” Whoops. Thanks for letting me know!

Oh, I mean several votes like ‘your data all came through without being erased’, not that it took up multiple entries! It’s just 1 line in the database (it does say you submitted it 4 times but each time it just overwrites the old one). So you caused no problems!

Several people are reporting the award form is not working for them at the moment. Feel free to email your ribbon nominations directly to brian@springthing.net as a few others have done. I do plan on moving towards a google Form next year to avoid similar issues! I have, however, received a normal amount of ribbon nominations so far, so it seems like people have found creative solutions. Thank to all those who have taken the time to vote!

Last night I got the same form timeout @baezil had described, but thought my votes had probably gone through anyway per the discussion above. But checked today with @mathbrush - nope, no votes in. So thank goodness I emailed him too! Recommend emailing him if in doubt.

We’re winding down at the end of the night! The deadline for ribbon nominations will happen while I’m sleeping, so I’ll be emailing out to the authors the list of Audience Award ribbons they received for them to choose from in the morning.

The final winners will be announced in about 2-3 days after that (so, Tuesday or Wednesday) to give authors time to respond.

Due to the irregularities with the voting checkbox system, I am happy to receive and pass on any additional audience award nominations even after the festival closes and pass them on to authors. Best in Show nominations won’t be accepted after tonight’s previously schedule deadline.

Thanks again to everyone who participated! I’ve heard many of the judges praising this year’s games and many of this year’s authors praising the reviewers. You literally are the festival, so thanks for being great!

I regret not playing enough games to feel like I had an idea of which game I should vote for Best in Show! I even made a resolution to play more gamed than last year, but alas, I failed. Exams didn’t help, but I gotta admit, it was mostly me being lazy. Congrats to everyone who entered anyway!

I swear I am not praying that Brian get insomnia.

All participants should have received an email with your audience award nominations. If you did not, something went wrong; please contact me! If you did, good luck. Results will be announced later in the day on Wednesday, or earlier in the week if everyone’s responses come back in time.

@mathbrush : maybe it’s just the page title, but I think the “prize preference form” you sent to the authors has the 2025 form.

I confirm: in the module there are the 2025 prizes.

I notice that the ribbons aren’t placed in the 2026 games page…

Perplexed regards from Italy,
dott. Piergiorgio.

They probably won’t be for another couple days, right?

Sorry for the late notice, but while the URL for the prizes the form says https://springthing.net/2026/prizes.html , it still links to the 2025 prize page https://springthing.net/2025/prizes.html

I just got home late. I haven’t received a couple of replies, but I’ll go right now and make the awards, which will likely take an hour or two. Then they’ll be up!
