Aha! That never occurred to me. I don’t think it’s in the instructions that you don’t need a verb-- it says verb-noun is not always necessary, but not that you can just type OBJECT and it will treat it like EXAMINE. I would definitely implement EXAMINE (X), or put in a message that to examine an object, just type its name.
And I always use GET instead of TAKE. I tried GETTING some things, and it told me I couldn’t. Is GET implemented, or can you just not take many things?
I would definitely include that in the scene descriptions. I didn’t see any mentions of directions there-- I just randomly typed directions until one worked.
I’ll give it another shot now that I know how to examine things, but I would definitely tweak this so that the parser rules are very clear.
After checking, yeah… I only used TAKE in my commands. (Is that maybe an British/American to prefer one over the other?)
I’ll let you discover whether you can take things
GET or TAKE? I use both, depending on the story circumstances and level of engagement. GET feels more agressive, so I find myself typing that when I’m stealing stuff. I TAKE things off the floor or table if they’re just there for the, well, taking. I might even gently PICK UP a delicate butterfly wing if I need one to complete my pinkifying unicorn potion.
